MythTV 0.23 on Mac OS X Update

I've been neglecting my mythtv builds. Mainly because I've stopped using mythtv for various reasons that I won't go into here. I still have a soft spot for myth and when I read that 0.23 was released a little while back I decided to go see if 0.23 builds and sure if enough it did! For now, I've put up manually built .dmg of 0.23-fixes and will automate that to run every few days or so. I'll try to do the same for 0.22-fixes. As for the nightlies, I'll see if those will start working again, since 0.23-fixes built with no issues, I'll cross my fingers. Hopefully, they'll start showing up over the next week or so as well! FIXES Builds Lastly, if some is actually reading this, can you let me know if these builds actually work? I do not currently have a backend to test or verify with.

I was trying to figure out why modifying AutoFetchInterval in /var/mobile/Library/com.apple.mobilemail.plist to something lower than 15 minutes wasn't working... Did some poking around and realized now it's located in /var/mobile/Library/com.apple.persistentconnection.plist and the key to modify is now called PCDefaultPollInterval and the value is now stated in seconds. This is as of 2.2.1, not sure when this started happening, I'm guess sometime after 2.2 since that's when auto fetch started working again. Oh BTW, for those of you who don't know I'm talking about, this is for making your iPhone / iPod Touch check email more often than the default 15 minutes.

Bye bye DD-WRT - Hello Tomato!

Earlier this year, the maintainer of the DD-WRT project made some licensing changes. As a result, DD-WRT has been removed off my Linksys WRT54GL and replace with a truly open source software Tomato. So far I'm liking it, some nice bandwidth graphs that weren't in DD-WRT, eliminates my use of mrtg as well as a pretty clean interface.

Small update, since I've been away from this for a while.... Night builds of binaries for 0.21-fixes was broken for a while, now it's working again.... nightly trunk builds are currently broken, I'll get that sorted out soon... http://macvana.com/mythtv/FIXES/

Newswire has the press release It looks like voice and data will be combined into a $60 "for the cheapest" plan. As many predicted, it would be a cold day in hell before there would be "unlimited" data from Rogers. I was really excited about Rogers/Fido getting the iPhone as a currently Fido subscriber... up until today. The problem is that there are a lot of existing subscribers who already are very happy with the voice portion of their plan AND are willing to pay for a little more for a modest amount of data. For example something like: $10 for 150 to 200MB... charge more for unlimited.... These are the people you've eliminated as potential customers for the iPhone. If they provide a reasonably priced add-on data option and allow users have it added to existing voice plans, they would not be able to keep the iPhone on the shelves...

Rogers AND Fido to get iPhone in Canada

Hmm, it looks like both Rogers and Fido will be getting the iPhone in Canada? Fido may be owned by Rogers, but the past has shown that their products were often marketed separately and very differently.... now some overlap is starting to show?!? This sounds rather nice for Fido users, hopefully not having to deal with the hassle of "switching".

Finally! We've always been slower to get stuff than the US, in this case waiting might have been better... Price is $4.99 a movie... a little more than the US iTunes store, but you get 48 hours to watch it, as opposed to 24 hours for the them.... starting from the time you click Play. And if you get your iTunes credits from Costco you save a bit more too. =)

Looks like Engadget got to play with one I wonder if this is just a one off unit that was sent to Engadet on purpose so it could be sent around the blogosphere. Shrug. In it's current state, I wouldn't buy one. There are few reasons you get a Mac, one of which is you get beautiful hardware... this is far from it.

Photoshop Express

Adobe has launched a flash based version of Photoshop called Photoshop Express. It feature set looks very simliar to the Picnik - which is available through Flickr. Competition is good, it will be interesting to see how each of these products improve with the other pushing back. Personally, I like my Pixelmator the best.
