Someone actually using pre-fetching!

google-blog.gif

Google has turned on pre-fetching for Mozilla based browsers for search results. What this will do is while you are looking at the results of the searches, it will start caching/downloading the sites from the search results, meaning you will load the site faster when you decide to click on them. Maybe others will start following Google's lead and start implementing this too...

The only drawback back is that you start collecting cookies from sites you may not have actually visited... not really a big deal I think... people who complain about cookies usually don't understand that they are harmless. Just because you accept a cookie from a website, it doesn't mean you are giving them your credit card, birthday, social insurance number, and date of your dogs last shots.

Check it out at this googleblog posting, more info on prefetching can be found here.
